MHP already know and use a modality or modalities they are trained in and getting trained in another one is not necessarily something they desire the most. For some it is an option, but even then choosing the right method seems to be less of a problem (rather money and time are the obstacles). What they are more interested in are tools and ideas that will allow them to bring their practice to a new level. They want to learn somatic tools from various modalities and integrate them into their therapy practice. They care more about the practical skills than the modality itself. Hence, more emphasis is needed on useful and easy-to-integrate tools and less on teaching the general theory of particular modalities.
Mental health professionals have a variety of highly effective trauma therapies to choose from, including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, EMDR, IFS therapy or Somatic Experiencing. While many approaches recommend following their specific techniques and protocols closely, it is common for some clients to respond better to certain methods than others, and for a given method to be more or less effective at different times.
That’s why we will present a selection of somatic modalities with a focus on teaching specific techniques and providing practical instruction, including demonstrations, experiential learning, Q&A, group work, and group sharing. This approach will enable participants to gain practical skills that they can immediately apply in their work with clients, both online and in person. We will primarily focus on techniques that are easy to use and adapt to different settings.
We will begin the training by exploring the fundamental principles of somatic therapy and how they apply to the healing of trauma. Next, we will focus on a select few techniques from various modalities, delving into their practical use and the proper way to incorporate them into trauma therapy.
During this training, we will explore a variety of modalities including Polyvagal theory, Sensorimotor psychotherapy, Somatic IFS, Somatic Experiencing, Breathwork, Dance movement therapy, Feldenkreis, Cranio-sacral, and Bioenergetic analysis. These approaches offer a range of techniques and perspectives for working with clients and can be integrated into a holistic treatment plan.
We are thrilled to have Janina Fisher as one of our esteemed teachers, bringing her expertise in somatic approaches to the training.
